Purition – fuelled by nature.

If you’re like me and feel that life can get mad at times (or most of the time!), eating healthy vegan food on the go can be tricky if you don’t have an emergency stash to turn to. Happily, the guys at Purition decided to create a range of shakes with whey-based and vegan varieties, perfect for drinking on the move.

The main differences between these and most others on the market is a question they’re asked all the time, but is also really simple to answer – REAL FOOD! This is junk-free, fitness food with ingredients your body recognises. No gums, cheap fillers, thickeners, artificial anything or flavourings. Just simple, wholesome food ingredients that support both your clean eating and fitness goals.

The ethos behind Purition Wholefood Shakes…

The idea came from a group of passionate individuals from both Australia and the UK, who combined their expertise to create this natural nutrition.

“We offer a unique range of specially formulated lifestyle products, to help you maintain a balanced diet and achieve goals naturally.

Training: To train hard you need to eat right and Purition provides the protein-rich nutrition support you need.

Healthy eating: Fuel your day with a healthy breakfast smoothie that provides the quality protein, fibre and essential nutrients to help manage your appetite.

Diet and fat loss: Use as a healthy, sugar-free meal replacement that’s ready in 60 seconds, portion controlled and leaves you full for 4 hours.”

The thick texture may be a bit strange at first if you’re used to drinking smooth protein shakes. These are real food ingredients which don’t dissolve, so think of the texture as being more similar to a smoothie with ‘bits’.

The best bits about Purition Wholefood Shakes…

Raw Vegan Chocolate Shake
* EU grown hemp protein * golden linseed * sunflower kernels * almonds * coconut * cocoa * chia seeds * sesame seeds * pumpkin seeds * inactive nutritional yeast * psyllium husk * apple pectin * stevia
Drinking something chocolatey that’s also good for you is always exciting, so I blended it with my homemade almond milk as an afternoon snack. The light brown appearance definitely reflected the taste: it was more ‘hint of chocolate’ than ‘CHOCOLATE!’ I enjoyed it, but would have liked the flavour to be stronger.

Raw Vegan Vanilla Shake
* hemp protein * golden linseed * sunflower kernels * almonds * coconut * chia seeds * sesame seeds * pumpkin seeds * inactive nutritional yeast * psyllium husk * Madagascan vanilla * apple pectin * stevia
I have to admit, when I blitzed this up as a breakfast smoothie bowl, I wondered if something so green-looking could actually taste good! Thankfully, the first spoonful proved that it could. Just like the chocolate one, it tasted nice but whispered ‘vanilla’ rather than shouting it from the rooftops. It also made an interesting change from my usual breakfast of oats with blueberries.

I tried it as a meal replacement as they suggested, but didn’t find it satiating enough for more than a couple of hours. A nakd bar and small banana topped me up until lunch.

Raw Vegan Hemp Shake
* EU grown hemp protein * golden linseed * sunflower kernels * almonds * coconut * chia seeds * sesame seeds * pumpkin seeds * inactive nutritional yeast * psyllium husk * apple pectin * stevia
I wasn’t as surprised that this one was green, as it seemed more expected from something hemp-flavoured. I whizzed it up, had a taste and… well let’s say it tasted very hemp-like! It had that earthy kind of taste that hardcore healthies might enjoy, but I’m not one of them. I didn’t want to waste it, so I threw in some frozen cherries, gave it another blast and that solved the taste problem for me.

If I could tweak anything…

If something’s good for you then I want to eat it because I enjoy it, not just because you should. I enjoyed the chocolate and vanilla shakes but feel the flavours need a bit of ‘oomph’ to win over true chocolate and vanilla lovers. If we want to encourage people to experiment more with vegan food, then it needs to be just as tasty as the alternatives they’ve been eating.

Lottie’s verdict on Purition Wholefood Shakes…

Hooray for Purition – they’ve managed to produce a range of shakes that can satisfy a whole range of tastes, and there’s not a nasty ingredient in sight! It’s another name to throw at the ‘where do you get your protein?’ crowd, while smiling smugly because you already know how good they taste!

It’s another vegan hit for those of us who love to lift, and those of us who love to eat clean, real foods! Why not be vegan-curious and try Purition Wholefood Shakes for yourself?

The small print. These products were kindly gifted by Purition for me to try and review, so this is my honest opinion of them. I wasn’t paid to post this and let’s face it, if it was an advert, I would have loved them all equally. 😀
